KatiePiper is an**__English__** philanthropist, television presenter and former model from **__Andover__**, **__Hampshire__**. Piper had hoped to have a full-time career in the media, but in March 2008 **__sulphuric acid__**was thrown in her face. The attack, which blinded Piper in one eye, was arranged by Piper's ex-boyfriend, Daniel Lynch, and carried out by an accomplice, Stefan Sylvestre. Lynch and Sylvestre were arrested and are serving life sentences in prison for their crimes.
Before the attack, Katie had a career in modelling. She took part in many photoshoots during the course of her modelling career. She also entered beauty pageants and won some of them. Katie also conducted a career as a digital television presenter. In short, she was a beautiful young woman with a promising career. As her career began to develop, Katie moved away from her family in Hamisphere, and began to live with her friends in North London.

She then met a guy Daniel Lynch, through an online Social Media Network, Facebook. They got together not long after. She was really pleased with the relationship at first. However, a two weeks into the relationship, she was raped by him in a hotel room, where he threatened to cut her with a razor and hang her, and stabbed her arms several times. Daniel called and apologised to her several times. Two days after the attack, she was persuaded by Daniel to read an email, which he had sent to her Facebook. On her way to the internet cafe, she was approached by a hooded man and was splashed with sulphuric acid.
The acid, some of which Katie had swallowed, blinded her in her left eye, and caused **__partial thickness and full thickness burns__**. The surgeons completely removed the skin of Piper's face, and replaced it with a skin substitute, Matriderm, to build the foundations for a skin graft. This procedure was the first of its kind to be done in a single operation.
After the attack, Katie moved out of her flat in London and returned to Hampshire to live with her family. Her mother, Diane Piper, who was a __classroom assistant__ in a primary school, gave up her job so she could look after her daughter following the attack

Although she had the right to remain anonymous due to her being raped, she chose to waive her anonymity, so that she can raise awareness of the situation of burn victims and understand the treatment they have to go through. She also took part in a documentary, Katie: My Beautiful Face, which talks about her experience.
She also took part in another programme, Katie: My Beautiful Friends. It features Katie meeting people who have been disfigured, disabled or physically altered as a result of illness, injury, assault, accident or surgery.
On 7 February 2012, **__Channel 4__** broadcast a new one-off film featuring Katie as she prepared to undergo **__stem-cell surgery__** in a bid to restore sight in her damaged left eye. "Katie: The Science of Seeing Again" saw Katie look into the biology of the eye, visit America to look into the religious and moral debate around the use of **__embryos__** in stem-cell research, and monitored her as she underwent the treatment by surgeon **__Sheraz Daya__** at Centre for Sight in **__East Grinstead__**, West Sussex. Within the programme Katie revealed she had undergone 109 medical operations in the four years since the acid attack, with the eye operation being her 110th.
Katie Piper has also written an autobiography. It talks about what she has experienced and it includes what happened during Daniel and her attacker's (Stefan Sylvestre) trial. I have read the book and the sentence that till this day I cannot forget it "I heard a horrible screaming sound... it was coming from me." This actually showed how much pain she was in and it was the kind of pain that not many people could understand. What I interpreted from the sentence was that, she was so shocked from the sudden pain she felt at that moment, that it took her awhile to realise that the screams she was hearing, was coming from her herself.
Katie Piper is a very inspiring woman. She did not give up on herself, and instead works hard to help other people who suffered similar fate to her. After reading the book, I wanted to find out more about her. She has her own charity webpage (http://www.katiepiperfoundation.org.uk/), which was set up in 2009, aimed at raising awareness of the plight of victims of burns and other disfigurement injuries. Katie Piper may not be beautiful to everyone, but to many people, she would always be beautiful in our hearts. Beside, it is what is on the inside that counts. It is not easy for someone to waive their anonymity after being so brutally raped to help raise awareness for other burn victims, but she managed to do it. It is not easy for someone to be as optimistic as her after her an acid attack which has left her disfigured for life, but she managed to do it. These proves what a strong woman she is. Today, she is pregnant with a child (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2428865/Katie-Piper-pregnant-child-I-just-want-shout-rooftops.html) , with her partner, James.
